Lots of interesting things pass through my inbox. Here’s a sampling of recent tidbits related to amateur radio:
- Pentek sells high-end software-defined radios for commercial and military applications. Their Software-Defined Radio Handbook is a free download from their website.
- EngineeringUnplugged.Com is an ambitious project to catalog engineering-related websites. The sites listed here include a lot more than just electrical and electronics engineering. There are 31 different categories, including aerospace, manufacture, assisted living, and more.
- Cheap capacitor assortment. Karl W4KRL writes to the AMRAD mailing lis, “Ordered a capacitor assortment on August 15, received today 13 days later. A thousand 50V ceramic capacitors in 50 values nicely sorted for $4.54 including postage.”
- Eight Hints for Better Scope Probing. This free application note, published by Keysight (which used to be Agilent, which used to be Hewlett-Packard) includes the following tips to help you make better scope measurements:

- #3 – Compensate probe before use
