This episode is over two hours long, but we dig into it pretty deeply. If you’re concerned about this issue, you should find it enlightening to watch this episode, and if you don’t know anything at all about this issue, you’ll really be enlightened by this episode.
At the end of this episode, we talk about what’s next. The feeling is that we shouldn’t just let this drop. Please let me know what you think should be done next.

Dan:
Thanks for your voice of reason on this issue.
As for a next step: I recommend that each person who feel’s even mildly annoyed about the censure and/or the gag order contact their Division representative and either applaud or criticize (respectfully, reasonably, and “professionally”) them for their vote(s). Luckily, I was able to applaud my representative. I believe that treating this issue as a failure in the representative function of the ARRL is essential.
I am happy to support this organization (ARRL) as long as it supports me. We can’t expect our representatives to read our thoughts; so let give them a piece of our minds.
A Start…

On one of the mailing lists that I’m on, it was suggested that you send an email to ALL of the directors, just to let them know that you’re not happy about this. Here are their email addresses:
The email address for president Rickk Roderick, K5UR, is [email protected]. I would also include him if you plan to email the Board about this. The email address for CEO Tom Gallagher, NY2RF, [email protected], and you can email him, too, just for the heck of it.
Bob, KG6AF says
Are these the votes for the new Code of Conduct policy, the censure of N6AA, or both?
Dan KB6NU says
Directors Abernethy, W3TOM; Norton,N6AA; and Woolweaver, K5RAV all voted against the adoption of the “code of conduct” and N6AA’s censure. Director Vallio, W6RGG, voted to adopt the code of conduct and abstained on the N6AA censure.

While I am pretty certain (if I’m being honest) that I would always feel that any representative should never be subjected to a confidentiality constraint/gag order, etc., (bona fide “closed session” issues notwithstanding) I am wondering when someone will post the cell phone video of the meeting at which Mr. Norton was alleged to have uttered his “treasoness” remarks. He must have gone off the rails, right? It must have left no doubt that his remarks violated the gag order; there must have been zero room for interpretation, right? I mean there must be a video otherwise, it would have to be a “we said x they said” situation and the ties goes to the accused. (basic due process) But without it, and based solely on the documentation which Mr. Norton posted via your blog, the board’s action leaves me scratching my head and asking: “What really happened, what really is going on here?”
So, where’s the video?
Richard W0QGS says
Email sent to my Director and of course, I got the “typical” response back…
“Hi Richard,
Thanks for your input on this issue and I will certainly take it into consideration when we deal with it at the upcoming board meeting.
But please be aware that the amateur public is getting only one side of the “story”.
73’s,
Rod, K0DAS”
Dan KB6NU says
Please email him back and tell him to give us his side of the story!

Amen, KF5THB.

It seems pretty black and white to me. There is a gag order on board members that disagree with board decisions. They are wanting to change the rules, so that your membership can be revoked without a real due process. There are other things like this in the upcoming board meeting. How can there be a different side?
