Almost everyone with an amateur radio license knows about HamNation. Its high-power (pun intended) hosts include Bob Heil, K9EID, of Heil Sound fame; Gordon West, WB6NOA, author of the W5YI study guides; and George Thomas, W5JDX, of AmateurLogic.TV fame. It’s a great show, and I watch it nearly every week while I’m lifting weights or using my rowing machine.
There are a lot of other great podcasts out there, though, and recently, I was a guest on two of them, and was mentioned in a third.
QSO Today. QSO Today is a production of Eric Guth, 4Z1UG. Eric describes his podcast as “a conversation between amateur radio operators about their journey through the exciting hobby of ham radio.” This includes stories about how hams got into the hobby, as well as what they’re currently involved with.
I was featured on Episode 25. For over an hour, we talked about how I got started in amateur radio, and what I’m currently doing, including this blog, my study guides, and my teaching. I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Eric.
Fo Time. Cale, K4CDN, produces the Fo Time podcast. Cale focuses less on history and more on the current state of the amateur radio art. That includes a focus on what younger hams are doing in ham radio today. The last two episodes, for example, discuss APRS and portable stations.
I appear on Episode 19, which was just released yesterday. Cale was very interested in hearing about my study guides, as he’d had several listeners mention that they used my study guides to get their licenses. That, of course, was very gratifying to hear.
Cale was also very interested in CW, and we’ve been talking about him having me back on the podcast to talk about CW operation. I was very happy to hear that some of his younger listeners are interested in CW, and I, of course, have agreed to talk about that at some point.
HamRadioNow. While I’m not a guest on this show, I do get a mention in Episode 188. In this episode, Mike, N5CFU, discusses the many websites out there that cater to amateur radio operators, and how to use sites, like Twitter, for example, in ham radio. Mike and I just followed each other on Twitter, and that’s how I found out that he’d mentioned me on this show.
At about the 1:30:00 mark, Mike says, “He has some real interesting blog posts on his ham radio activities. Very good writer.” Thanks, Mike!

No love for the Linux in the Hamshack podcast? I’m pretty sure you’ve been mentioned there at least once :-)
