SimSmith is Smith Chart software that was introduced and described in an article in QRP Quarterly earlier in the year. I recently made some substantial improvements to SimSmith. These are:
- Added a library function to allow you to save and restore tuned circuit elements.
- Added some new components including a transformer.
- Added a ‘print’ function
- Improved the ‘save’ and ‘load’ commands.

The newest version in 4.2. It is written in Java so you need only download “SimSmith-4.2.jar”. There is no installation necessary, only a working Java Runtime Environment. This code has been tested on Macs, Windows, and Linux.
I haven’t tried it yet, but it sounds pretty cool to me.

It is, by far, the best Smith chart program I am ever used. You can draw your own matching circuits and load in measured or modeled load impedance sweeps to get a real feel for how the circuit works. Big kudu’s to Ward.

This is amazing.. I downloaded and casted W0QE, AE6TY, and W2AEW You Tubes, then tried SimSmith myself and what a pleasure to learn and dynamically understand Smith in real time… The possibilities seem to be endless and I know there is someone out there who will hook this program to a dongle and turn a PC in to a very active device..
Kudos and much Thanks… DaveR AA1A
