QSO Today Virtual Expo Keynote Speech – David Minster, NA2AA, ARRL CEO
I was a little disappointed that NA2AA felt the need to rehash the history of the ARRL and perpetuate the Hiram Percy Maxwell mythology, but overall, I think this was a good presentation. Actions will speak louder than words, though. For example, there was some mention about providing more services for affiliated clubs, but I haven’t yet heard of any concrete programs, and as I’ve noted in the past, there is still not an e-mail clubs newsletter.
Intro to Node Red for Ham Radio
One of the things mentioned in NA2AA’s talk was Node Red. It sounded to me as if it was some kind of radio-control program. What it is, however, is a programming tool, built with the Javascript Node.js software package, for wiring together hardware devices. Using a browser-based editor, you can wire together functional blocks to build a program. This video by Kyle, AA0Z explains how you might use it in amateur radio.
Teaching Online Classes
This is the talk I gave at the Virtual Expo on teaching online classes. I’ve had nearly 200 people in both Tech and General classes since July 2020, and although I’m starting to experience some Zoom fatigue, it’s still a great way to reach people around the country.
