The 2020 Dayton Hamvention has been cancelled, but Contest University 2020 is still on—online that is. Not only that, it’s free! It will take place at the same time and on the same date—Thursday, May 14, 2020 at 9:00 am—as the live event would have.
The sessions will be held via Zoom. The link will be available on May 7.
It looks like another great lineup of sessions:
8:45 Welcome to CTU 2020 from W8CI, K3LR and N9JA
9:00 W3LPL – “Effective Low Band Receiving Antennas”
10:00 W2NAF – “2020 Solar Cycle Update and the HF Response to Ionospheric Storms and Traveling Ionospheric Disturbances”
11:00 N6TV – “Everything You Need to Know About USB and Serial Interfaces”
12:00 Lunch on your own
12:25 K1AR – Memorial reading of the Silent Keys for 2020
12:30 NN1C – “Exuberance and Youth Contesting – Update on What is Going On”
1:00 W0YK – “Digital Contesting Hints & Kinks”.
2:00 K1DG – “Optimizing your Station for Contest Operations”.
3:00 N0AX – “Grounding & Bonding for Contest Stations”
4:00 NC0B – “Contest & DX Performance A Complex Subject Today Great RX Performance – TX Limitations”
5:00 W3LPL – “60 Years of Competitive Contesting — the W3LPL Story”
6:00 K3ZJ – Presentation of CQ Contest Hall Of Fame 2020
I’m definitely planning on attending the grounding and bonding session, and I’ve got my eye on a couple others, especially after my experience in the recent MI QSO Party.
By the way, the Contest University website contains a wealth of information on DXing and contesting. It has links to files and videos of Contest University presentations dating back to 2013.

I was already planning on taking vacation days for Dayton/Xenia, so I already had this day carved out for the FDIM. I’ll take in the virtual CTU, instead.
You can order books of previous CTUs at DX Engineering, and the previous recordings are on the CTU site, so you can follow along with the slides in the book and take notes on the previous CTUs.
I don’t think they’ll have proceedings books for the 2020 CTU out in time for this year, but considering that I think they would have had them for the actual onsite CTU, maybe they will show up on the DX Engineering site in time to order before the webinar.
I’d like to have the book already to follow along.
