THE BAZOOKA GROUND PLANE by Lance Aue / KA2EJD This ground plane is meant to be used with a magnet mounted antenna. Material List QTY Description 6 1/4-in. x 1/2-in.long bolt 12 1/4-in. nuts 3 1/4-in. eye bolt 6 1/4-in. threaded rod extender nuts 1 4-in. diameter round x 1/2 inch thick pancake box 1 4-in. round cover plate 1 1-1/2-in. PVC cap 1 24 inch long 1-2/2-in. PVC pipe 1 1-1/2 PVC to pipe thread adapter 1 1-1/2-in. PVC threaded pipe plug 6 18-in. stainless steel 1/4-in. diameter threaded rods 3 Screws to mount pancake box on PVC cap 4 12-in. X 3/8-in. dia. spike nails 3 snap hooks [for guy ropes] 3 ropes at least 4 feet longer than the intended mast height Construction 1. Drill [6] 1/4-in.dia. holes in the middle of the pancake box edge. 2. Drill [3] holes for the eyebolts as shown 3. Drill 3 holes for mounting screws in the middle of the bos 4. In the first [6] hole, from inside the box, insert a 1/4-in. x 1/2-in. bolt and put a nut and a thread extender nut. 5. In the other [3] holes put a nut on the eye bolt, place a nut inside the box, screw the eye bolt through the box edge into the insdide nut and make up the outside nut 6. Glue the cap to one end of the pipe 7. Glue on the adapter to the other end 8. Attach the pancake box to the PVC cap 9. Attach cover plate to top of pancake box 10. Store rods inside tube the pipe plug is used as a cap to allow storage of the rods inside the tube. Usage 1. Remove cap. 2. Remove rods and spike nails (stored inside the tube). 3. Screw rods into the thread extenders. 4. Attach mag-mount antenna. 5. Attach ropes to the eye-bolts. 6. Lay out the spikes for the guy ropes and the center. 7. Insert mast into tube. 8. Stand up and guy it. 9. Connect the radio and power and you are up and running.
