I’m not sure how I got on his e-mail list, but this looks like an interesting collection of amateur radio software from Stephen H. Smith, WA8LMF….Dan
The January 2016 edition of the Ham Software SuperPak DVD (which among other things contains the MI ARRL Digital Modes Presentation in PDF format) is now available for download on my website.
IMPORTANT This release has updated tools to fight the abusive “Get Windows 10” nagware and forced-file-download campaign being mounted by Microsoft. If you are not yet aware, Microsoft is getting ready to try to FORCE you to upgrade to Windows 10 later this January. This is being done by reclassifying the Win 10 upgrade in Windows Update from “Optional” (defaulted to “Not Selected”) to “Important” (defaulted to “Selected”). [“Important” is a Windows Update category normally reserved for security patches and the like.]
If you don’t take pro-active actions now to block these outrages by Microsoft, you will boot your Windows 7 or 8 system sometime later this month or next ,only to see it attempting to install Windows 10 by itself.
The necessary blocking tools and detailed information, updated only 4 days ago, are located in the folder “\_I-Dont-Want-Windows-10” on the disk.

Thanks. The pop-up nag from the system tray is dangerous, in that it grabs focus from your current application if it pops up while you are typing in another window, if you hit ‘Enter’, it will automatically sign you up with a reservation for a download.
This happened on my Windows 8.1 machine, before I thought I was ready to upgrade, but I let it go, since Windows 8 was such a mess, I figured that Windows 10 had to be an improvement. So far, it’s been OK, and you do not have to let it share your WiFi password with all your contacts. Even though the sharing is turned on by default (which you can disable), each WiFi network you encounter will need to be individually set for sharing. Most folks that have posted about this have forgotten this important detail, or maybe they just ignore it while they are busy demonizing Microsoft.
On an old Windows 7 machine that my XYL uses, we also accidentally got a reservation, but were able to cancel it right away, and so far, we’ve not had any more surprises. I’d like to remove the pop-up, though, because it still is dangerous to have it grab focus like it does, and sooner or later, we’ll get caught in it again.
I also have an old Windows 7 machine I use for my ham shack computer, and the manufacturer has stated on their web site that they do not plan to release Windows 10 compatible drivers for that old model, so it is imperative that I do not update that machine, no matter what the Windows 10 update claims (it says the machine is compatible — who do you trust?).
This information will come in handy to nuke the popup nags. I’ll let folks know how it goes.
