Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to be one of my beta testers! I think that I have more than enough now. If you’ve contacted me by email, I’ll be getting back with you shortly….Dan
As some of you may know, the ARRL is working on a Lifelong Learning program. They’ve gotten serious enough about it to hire some folks–like yours truly–to start developing classes. I’m currently working on the course “Introduction to Amateur Radio Communications.” This course is aimed at beginners and be a very basic introduction to amateur radio.
As we envision it, it’s going to be a series of short videos on the following topics:
- Radio Waves: Electromagnetic waves, frequency and wavelength, propagation
- Radio Signals: Modulation types, bandwidth
- Amateur radio equipment: Choosing your first radio
- Amateur radio equipment: Buying or building your first antenna
- Amateur radio equipment: Setting up your “shack”
- Getting on the air and making contacts
- Getting help
- What else can you do with a Technician Class license?
I’m at the point now where I’m looking for some “beta testers.” I now have an almost-finished slide show for module #1, “Radio Waves,” that I’d like to run by a small number of new and potential hams and get their feedback on it. As I work on the other modules, I’d also anticipate doing the same with those.
I want to keep it to a small group to make it manageable. I’m thinking 4 – 6 people. If you’re interested in helping me out, please email me at [email protected]. Thanks!
