Every once in a while, I get in a pensive mood about losing the election for the ARRL Board of Directors last fall. I’ve said all along that I’m a better ham radio operator than I am a politician, but you really need to be a politician to win these elections.
At the Marshall hamfest a couple of weeks ago, I had one experience that was really heartening. As I was puzzling over one seller’s offerings, a ham came up to me, put his arm around my shoulders, and said that he was sorry that I’d lost the election. We had a nice chat, and I told him that at this point, I planned to run again in three years, so stay tuned.
His coming up to me was such a surprise to me that I forgot to get his name and call. If you’re the guy who offered his condolences, please e-mail me.
One reason that I’d like to get in touch with him is that if I want to increase my chances of winning in three years, I’m going to have to start working on it now. He could be the start of my grass-roots campaign wherever it is that he lives.
So can you. If you live in the Great Lakes Division (Michigan, Ohio, or Kentucky), and would like to help me out, e-mail or phone me and we can discuss how you can help.
