Santa on the air

December 26, 2019 By Dan KB6NU 1 Comment

Yesterday, Ralph, AA8RK, the Michigan Section Public Information Coordinator, sent me this email:

What would it take to do this in SE Michigan?

Included was a link to this video:

I thought about this a little and replied:

My take would be that you would want to:

  • Make up a schedule for when Santa would be on the air (6 – 8 pm?)
  • Recruit volunteers that would be good at being Santa (crucial!)
  • Maybe provide a little training to the potential Santas (how do you answer tough questions?)
  • Line up some kids (kids in hospital, school groups?)
  • Line up a repeater

I think this is a neat idea, and if we get started now, we could perhaps pull it off next year. Have any of you done this? Do you have any advice to give us?
