TAPR to hold mini Digtal Communications Conference on Saturday, December 9

TAPRUnable to hold its traditional, in-person Digital Communications Conference (DCC) this year, Tucson Amateur Packet Radio (TAPR) will hold a one day online Mini-DCC on December 9 followed by the annual TAPR membership meeting. So mark your calendars for Saturday, December 9, from 1700 to 2230 UTC (1200 to 1730 EST, 0900 to 1430 PST). Login details for the meeting will be available on the TAPR website prior to December 9.

Planned presentations include:

*    TAPR SDR Development Progress and Challenges by David Larsen, KV0S

*    Developments in ka9q-radio by Phil Karn, KA9Q

*    An Open Source Wideband HF Receiver Design by David Witten, KD0EAG

*    An Inexpensive GPSDO for HF Receivers by John Ackermann, N8UR

*    Current Open Source Digital Voice Techniques by Walter Holmes, K5WH

*    A Low Cost FreeDV-based ESP32 Radio Interface by Mooneer Salem, K6AQ

*   ESP32 APRS and LoRA Hardware by Jason Rausch, K4APR

The annual TAPR membership meeting will occur following the presentations.

ARRL/TAPR 2020 Digital Communications Conference (Sept 11-12) Goes Virtual

The 39th annual TAPR Digital Communications Conference (DCC) will be a virtual conference on September 11 and 12. The presentations will be on both Zoom and YouTube.

The speaker schedule is now available. The schedule includes the following:

  • HF Propagation Measurement Techniques and Analyses – Steve Cerwin, WA5FRF
  • TangerineSDR Hardware Update – Scotty Cowling, WA2DFI, John Ackermann, N8UR, Tom McDermott, N5EG (TAPR)
  • Digital signal processing: I2S in ESP32 – Anthony Le Cren, F4GOH/KB1GOH
  • GaN based RF power amplifier design – Mohammad A. Maktoomi, Ph.D. (University of Scranton)
  • and much more…

No registration is required to watch the presentations on YouTube, but registered DCC attendees participating via Zoom will be able to interact with presenters and other attendees via a chat room as well as raise a virtual hand to ask questions. DCC registration is free for TAPR members and $30 for non-members. Members receive a 100% discount at checkout. Click here to register.

The YouTube URL will be announced and posted on the TAPR website before the DCC.

Non-members who would like to join TAPR and receive a free DCC pass can simply add TAPR membership and DCC registration to their shopping carts. After checkout, they will receive the free DCC pass when their membership is processed.

Speakers announced for Digital Comms Conference, September 20-22, 2019

TAPRThe ARRL/TAPR Digital Communications Conference is being held  September 20-22, 2019 here in my backyard at the the Detroit Metro Airport Marriott Hotel. There’s still plenty of time to get tickets and attend.

They recently announced the  speaker schedule. There are many good talks. The ones I’m most interested in attending are:

  • Introduction to Hi-Def Digital Amateur Television, Mel Whitten, KØPFX

  • An FPGA Learning Experience: SPI collection in Linux Interface to Max10 FPGA, Gregory Raven, KF5N

The Sunday seminar is “Learn to build and operate your own SatNOGS ground station.” There’s an extra charge to attend this seminar.
