In the past, I’ve considered starting a podcast. I even tried recording one. It didn’t turn out too bad, but I never published it.
Recently, though, I appeared on the W5KUB Internet show. After the show, I got talking with Tom about how we might collaborate. He had just signed up Riley Hollingsworth, K4ZDH, who was in charge of amateur radio regulation enforcement for the FCC just before his retirement, to appear on a regular basis to talk about rules and regulations. I suggested to Tom that I might be able to do a regular spot in which I talk about one of the topics from my study guides.
This week, I exchanged tweets with Cale, K4CDN, proprietor of the Fo Time amateur radio podcast. I appeared in episode 19 last February, just after I release The CW Geek’s Guide to Having Fun with Morse Code. He tweeted, “…Need to get you back on the show sometime.” I replied, “How about a semi-regular spot called “Test Time with KB6NU”? I’d cover some related questions from a study guide.”
The upshot of all this is that while I may not have my own podcast, I might be appearing on one or both of these podcasts.
My question to you is what topics would you be interested in having me cover? As you studied for the General Class or Extra Class tests, what topics gave you the most trouble? I think these spots will do the most good if I can zero in on the most troublesome topics.

You can get the factual version of the questions and answers in many places. How about focusing on the back-story for why things are?
Our club is working with a local gifted/talented school. In the course of explaining the relationship between frequency and wavelength, I covered all the old ham bands (40m=7MHz, 20m=14MHz, etc). Then I pointed out how they were harmonically related, so 1930s hams with spurious emissions were likely to affect other hams more than anybody. Clever FCC!
I think we reinforced the relationship between frequency and wavelength, reminded them of ham bands, introduced harmonics, and stimulated some discussion about where other radio services fit into the spectrum.
Now what am I going to talk about next week?….

That is how I do it in my classes and what I’d plan to do in these podcast segments.

Looking forward to your podcasts or guest segments then :-)
