The bowling season has just started here in Michigan, and this year, I’m bowling in two leagues: one on Monday night, and one on Friday afternoon. After week 1, my average is one pin short of 190, with series of 572 and 567. My high game was a 228.
This got me to thinking about what hobbies, besides ham radio, you all might have. Yesterday, I Tweeted:
Just started the new bowling season, and this year, I’ll be bowling in two leagues. First week’s average is 190, with a high game of 228. What other hobbies do you have besides #hamradio
Here are some of the replies:

Too many. Cars, motorcycles, airplanes, pistol/rifles, cycling, astronomy, was also starting to get into SCUBA too but my ears don’t like how rapid the pressure changes. Used to bowl as a sub on a league. Lifetime high game is only a 220 something.

Stu Foster @G7WAYI’m a disc jockey and have a drivetime radio show. I call it a hobby as I have a proper job as well…..

I shoot, but not so much these days due to dicky shoulders. Synthesizers are a great passion (I have lots), and I also like toys.

Right now ham radio is my only hobby I really have time to pursue, unless you can count changing diapers as a hobby – I do a lot of that…
So, what are your other hobbies?

Other non radio hobbies? Fishing, guitar, photography, and I used to ride motorcycles. I also worked as a gunsmith as a second job for 20 years. I enjoyed the woodworking aspect of repair and restoration of stocks as well as refinishing and repairing the mechanisms of firearms. I had to give up most of that work with my hands because I wore them out and had to have two carpal tunnel release surgeries.
Now, I play with radio and still go fishing once in a while. I also have a 3 year old Pomeranian who thinks I exist to serve him, and he may be right. I am also active in veteran’s organizations, and I am a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America.

Radio control aircraft. My first electronics kit was a Heathkit GDA-1057 radio control system, in 1973, that ultimately got me into this hobby.

Biking: road, MTB, gravel, if it’s got pedals and two wheels, I’m all in. Backpacking. Car camping, usually in conjunction with biking. Castnet fishing.
But I manage to mix radio in with most of these at some level. Even though salt water and radios don’t mix too well, my QSL card has a pic of me throwing a castnet.

Too many, actually. D&D, Photography, RC Trucks, MOTA, Woodworking, Camping, ATVs …..
Used to be a big bowler when I lived in Michigan. 2 or 3 leagues each season. High game was 276 and was nerve racking! Then tore ligaments in my wrist, while bowling. That was the end of that. Was a lot of fun though. 73
