Researchers on Nov. 5 unveiled a microsatellite that will hitch a ride aboard an H-2A rocket to explore an asteroid in orbit between Earth and Mars…The Shinen 2 microsatellite, the fourth probe on the JAXA rocket, was developed by the Kyushu Institute of Technology and Kagoshima University. The Shinen 2 weighs just 17.7 kg, and its mission is to communicate with Earth from a lunar orbit using ham radio bandwidths.
FCC revokes ham license for convicted sex offender. The FCC reversed itself and revoked the license of amateur radio operator David Titus. In 2007, the Enforcement Bureau received information that Titus had been convicted of at least one felony sex offense involving a minor; Titus was convicted of a Class 3 felony and served 25 months in prison, according to the FCC. The bureau issued an Order to Show Cause why his license should not be revoked when the agency learned Titus may have been convicted of other felonies for sex crimes.
Forget the crabs, Christmas Island is ham radio heaven. The Polish visitors came with unusually heavy baggage, loaded with receivers, transmitters, and antennas tens of metres long. It was an arduous journey from Prague to Dubai, then to Jakarta, before the final leg to the dot in the North West Indian Ocean that is Christmas Island; over 40 hours in transit. But the usual activities centring on Christmas Island’s unique wildlife, dominated by thousands of bright red crabs, were not a high priority for these unusual visitors. The group of friends have regular Polish names, but they prefer their call signs. “I am mostly known under my shortwave call sign, which is ‘Sugar-Papa-Six-Echo-Queen-Zulu'” Wodak Helej told Alexia Attwood for North West WA Mornings.
