Trippy, AC8S, asked me to post this. Let’s talk about antennas!
First Annual Antenna Weekend
Purpose: There are millions of hams in the world, and I want to get as many stations on the air as possible, hearing as many antennas on the air as possible, from traditional antennas, to antennas that people never heard before, hearing how each antenna sounds, signal wise.
Sponsor: Trippy Brown, AC8S
Times: 2300Z Friday, June 7 to 0400Z Sunday, June 9
Geographic focus: Worldwide
Participation: Worldwide
Modes: All
Bands: all except WARC bands (30m, 17m, 12m)
Classes: Single station, single operator only. This way, more stations will be on the air, showing off their antennas, because we want as many stations on the air as possible!
Max power: Since it’s legal, 1500 watts or less
Exchange:
- An honest signal report, because people need to know how their antenna really sounds,
- State, Canadian province, or DXCC entity
- Description of your antenna. Fixed or portable stations must say how high up the antenna is. Mobile stations must report that they are mobile.
- Transmitter power
QSO points: None. This is not a contest!
Multipliers: None
Work stations once on each band and once using each mode.

Trippy adds, “If someone wants to make it a contest, I will gladly let them sponsor it in the future. I don’t have the time to score the logs myself. I would prefer that if you do make it a contest that you agree with the rule that only single station, single ops can be in the contest. The reason for this is to get as many stations on the air as possible. I also think that contest participants should exchange the same information.”
Dave New, N8SBE says
There should be a ‘wet noodle’ class, for sure.
