You’d expect a magazine named “High Frequency Electronics” to cover HF, but since there’s so much work going on now in the microwave region, most trade magazines ignore the topic. This magazine, though, is edited by Gary Breed, a long-time amateur radio operator, and ham radio operators will often articles of interest here.
The July 2006 issue is no exception. There are three articles ham will find interesting:
- Lower-Frequency Applications Maintain High Interest. This article starts with a listing of frequency allocations from 9 kHz to 50 MHz, then discusses some of the developments in HF radio. For example, the author notes that the Armed Forces have started using HF again, especially 4 – 10 MHz using NVIS propagation.
- Feedback Fundamentals: Basic Concepts and Circuit Topologies
- Decibels Demystified. Decibels are one of the most misunderstood topics in ham radio. This short article treats the topic in a very straightforward way, eliminating much of the confusion.
