Southgate reports that special call sign prefixes are being used in Spain from April 15-30 in celebration of the 95th Anniversary of the IARU and World Amateur Radio Day (WARD) on April 18. Stations with an EA prefix, can use the AO prefix, stations with an EB prefix, can use the AM prefix, and stations with the EC prefix: can use the AN prefix.
Last night, I worked a station with an AO call, but I must have copied it wrong. I can’t find a QRZ.Com entry with either the AO prefix or the EA prefix.
The Icelandic Radio Amateurs (IRA) will also be commemorating World Amateur Radio Day by using the call TF3WARD.
MI QSO Party
Speaking of April 18, this is the date of the Michigan QSO Party. The contest runs from 1600Z April 18 to 0400Z March 19 (12 noon EDT – midnight EDT). I will be operating from here in Washtenaw County (WASH). I’ll be operating mostly CW, but I’ll work a little phone, too. I’m trying to decide whether to use KB6NU/WASH as my call or W8CWN, which is a club call sign.
Sporadic E
Hams here in Ann Arbor, and on Twitter, have reported sporadic E propagation on the 10-meter and 6-meter bands. That being the case, I might give 10 meters a go in the contest tomorrow. I’ll have to dig out and hang my 10-meter loop antenna.
