Watching this video prompted me to see what other videos might be on YouTube that could help hams learn Morse Code. Here’s one by John, W5CYF:
- “CW is pretty cool.”
- There are no shortcuts!
- Copying an over-the-air signal is much different than code practice.
- Get on the air!
- Put the microphone in the drawer. This forces you to operate CW.
Americans aren’t the only ones getting on the CW bandwagon. Here’s one from Australia:
- Send as well as receive. (I’ve been suggesting this for years.)
- Don’t worry about the speed. (I like this advice.)
- Let what you missed go, especially as you’re learning.
Here’s one that you DON’T want to use to help you learn Morse Code. It uses visual cues to help you learn the dots and dashes. Most experts say this this is the ABSOLUTE WRONG WAY to learn the code.

I pronounce Koch as “coke”, not “cotch”, but I studied German for several years.
