AE0S to establish amateur radio software award

January 7, 2020 By Dan KB6NU 4 Comments

On his website, Claus, AE0S writes:

I’m starting an Amateur Radio Software award in order to promote amateur radio software development which adheres to the same spirit as amateur radio itself: innovative, free and open.

The award will consist of a PDF certificate, a monetary price $100+, and listing on the awards website.

The award committee will choose the award winner by their discretion. Others may join the award committee. Each award committee members is required to provide $100 which is used for the award money. Once the award money exceeds $500 the committee may choose to award multiple awards in a year.

At this point no organization is being setup to manage the awards. In the future one may be established. But for now things are kept simple.

Claus has created a draft of the award rules and has defined some other tasks:

  • Create website.
  • Determine how to digitally sign award pdf (SSL, PGP, etc).
  • Create sample award pdf.
  • Compile list of open source project for amateur radio. In progress, see list.
  • Select 2020 winner and present award

He has also started an item on /r/amateurradio and invites your comments there.

Good evening Dan, I thought I won the award as a picture as my (previous ) station is pictured. Nice to see my pics are being used. Most of the equipment has been sold and replaced except for the headphones, LDG antenna switch and 2 of the 3 monitors.
73 Dan and nice to see the pic on your blog.
