In this morning’s email, I received a couple of newsletters from the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. In Nanotech News, there were links to a couple of white papers that I thought you might find interesting and useful. These white papers were written by component and equipment vendors, so be prepared for some advertising as well as technical info.
Most hams will find the white paper on inductor specifications,Getting Started: An Introduction to Inductor Specifications, which was written by Coilcraft, more technically detailed and useful than the EMC white paper. If you’re a newcomer to the hobby, though, Introduction to EMC Compatibility, can help make sense of some of the eletromagnetic compatibility terms we use in amateur radio.
Getting Started: An Introduction to Inductor Specifications
There is more to selecting an inductor than the nominal inductance value. This paper provides students and engineers who are new to inductors with an overview of the key performance ratings they will need to understand and analyze when specifying RF and Power Inductors into their design.
Introduction to EMC Compatibility
This paper is intended to provide the reader with a basic understanding of Electromagnetic Interference and Compatibility, the various standards and specifications associated with being compliant, the types of testing available to help engineers quantify the performance of equipment and some of the basic approaches utilized to help meet requirements.
